The Fall 2023 edition is at the printer and soon headed to subscribers’ doorsteps. If you’re not already on that list, subscribe now or preorder a copy—you won’t want to miss it.
Our guest designer is the lovely human and Energizer Bunny-like painter Steve Keene. A longtime superstar in the indie music scene, Steve has created original album-cover art for the likes of Pavement, the Silver Jews, and Apples in Stereo, and he’s painted replicas of countless other album covers. Superchunk’s Jon Wurster told Rolling Stone, “One of the greatest moments in any musician’s career is seeing a Steve Keene rendition of your album cover. Who am I kidding, it’s the greatest moment.”
In addition to featuring a few hundred of Steve’s 300,000-plus paintings, the issue includes stellar short fiction from Fatima Kola, David Means, and Chris Adrian, and an essay by Will Oldham (aka Bonnie “Prince” Billy) that reveals why he’s among Steve’s biggest fans.
