Stanley Whitney

Stanley Whitney has been exploring the formal possibilities of color since the mid-1970s. His art is in the collections of many prominent museums, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. In 2024, the Buffalo AKG Art Museum presented a major retrospective survey of his career, which traveled to the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. An exhibition of new paintings opens at Gagosian, Hong Kong, in September 2026. He lives and works in Bridgehampton, New York; New York City; and Parma, Italy.
