Madison Smartt Bell

Madison Smartt Bell is the author of ten novels, including All Souls' Rising, a National Book Award Finalist, and two short-story collections. He was named one of Granta's Best Young American Novelists and is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. He has taught at the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, Bennington Writing Workshop, Johns Hopkins, and Vassar. He currently teaches at Goucher College in Baltimore where he lives with his wife, the poet Elizabeth Spires, and his daughter. His novel Master of the Crossroads (the next installment of his Haitian trilogy) will be published in November 2000 by Pantheon.
