Abbas Kiarostami

Abbas Kiarostami was born in Tehran in 1940 and began making films in the 1970s. His movies have received several international awards, including the 1997 Palme d'Or at Cannes for Taste of Cherry and the 1999 Venice Grand Jury Prize for The Wind Will Carry Us. His most recent feature film is Ten (2002). He is also a photographer, painter, and poet; his poetry collection, Walking with the Wind, was published by Harvard University Press in 2002.
