Sylvia Plachy, born in Budapest, is a New York–based photographer. She has traveled the world on assignment for publications such as the New Yorker, the New York Times Magazine, Metropolis, Artforum, Grand Street, and the Village Voice, where she was a longtime staff photographer. She is the author of six books of photography, and her professional honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Lucie Award, and ICP’s Infinity Award for her book Unguided Tour. Her pictures have been exhibited and collected by museums and galleries in the United States and abroad. Her current traveling exhibition, When Will It Be Tomorrow, opens in summer 2022 at PHotoESPAÑA in Madrid and in fall 2022 at the Lithuanian National Museum of Art in Vilnius.
