Ben Fountain is the author of the short story collection Brief Encounters with Che Guevara: Stories (Ecco/HarperCollins, 2006), which was among the most celebrated collections in recent years, winning both the 2007 PEN/Hemingway Award and the 2006 Barnes & Noble Discover Award for Fiction. His stories have appeared in Harper's, The Paris Review, Zoetrope: All-Story, and New Stories from the South, The Year's Best: 2006, among other publications, and have received an O. Henry Prize, two Pushcart Prizes, the McGinnis-Ritchie Prize for Fiction, and the Texas Institute of Letters Short Story Award. He is former fiction editor of the Southwest Review, and he holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University Law School.
