Fiona McFarlane is the author of the novel The Night Guest. Her collection of stories, The High Places, will be published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in May 2016. She lives in Sydney.

Jim Shepard is the author of seven novels, including most recently The Book of Aron, which won the Sophie Brody Medal for Achievement in Jewish Literature from the American Library Association and the PEN New England Award for fiction, and four story collections, including Like You’d Understand, Anyway, which was a finalist for the National Book Award and won the Story Prize. He teaches at Williams College.

Gus Van Sant is a filmmaker, photographer, painter, writer, and musician. Many of his films are among the pantheon of independent cinema, including Mala Noche, Drugstore Cowboy, and My Own Private Idaho. He won Oscar nominations for Good Will Hunting and Milk and the Palme d’Or and Best Director prizes at the Cannes Film Festival for Elephant, and he designed the Winter 2004 issue of Zoetrope: All-Story.

John Vanderslice is a musician and producer who owns the Tiny Telephone Recording studios in San Francisco and Oakland, where he’s worked with Samantha Crain, Spoon, and the Mountain Goats, among other artists. He’s also toured extensively and released ten albums on the Dead Oceans and Barsuk labels.
