Vol. 19, No. 2

The Southern Thruway
by Julio Cortázar

In a letter to his translator, Julio Cortázar claimed that his story "The Southern Thruway" inspired what Roger Ebert called "perhaps the most famous single shot in [Jean–Luc] Godard's work"—the nine-minute traffic jam in the French director's 1967 film Weekend.

This story is available only in the print edition of the Summer 2015 issue. Please purchase a copy from our online store.
