Doris Is Coming
by ZZ Packer

Untitled Document

Itís New Yearís Eve, 1961, and Doris Yates is in a Pentecostal church in Louisville waiting for the world to end. But the Rapture passes over a South still grappling with racial relations and Doris is left to make sense of this world. Packer conjures a Civil Rights movement made not of superhuman heroism, but of individuals seeking self-definition.
