Shannon Cain spent ten years writing creative grant proposals before she turned to short stories as a more legitimate outlet for her fiction. She was awarded Finalist for the Martindale Literary Award in 2000. Shannon is executive director of the Amazon Foundation (www.amazonfound.org), a philanthropic organization that makes grants for feminist social change. She lives in Tucson with her partner and six-year old daughter and can be reached at grantgrrl@aol.com. This is her first publication.
