She lives with her husband and two children in Westbury, New York. John Leary currently lives in Merida, Mexico. He has recently completed a novel, A Thousand Little Kings, set in the Czech Republic after the fall of communism. His story "Vacilandos" was published in the November issue of All-Story Extra. He can be reached at john.leary@ftnetwork.com. Beverly Carol Lucey, originally from New England, writes now from the Land of Lard and Peaches. Fearing she will never master the regional subtleties in pork products (sacks? butts? fresh? cured? Hog maws available now at the local Georgia grocery chains) she contents herself with trying to master the short story. Four stories are anthologized in We Teach Them All (Stenhouse Press, Maine). Two slices are in the 1999 edition of The Flint River Review; "Birthday Tape" is in the winter 2000 print edition of Moxie. "Waiting for the Flight," flash fiction in Vestal Review, has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She lives with her husband and black standard poodle, the elegant Miss Bessie Smith. Lucey loves the blues. When not writing, she is an instructor of education at Agnes Scott College. Reach her at WordsNest@aol.com. Jai Clare [Guest Editor] lives in England. Her agented novel--The Storyhouse--is about to hit publishers now. Her short fiction has appeared most recently in Winedark Sea, Odyssey, Redsine, and is forthcoming in Barcelona Review, Voyage, and QWF. Her short story "Liza Blooming" was also in April's edition of All-Story Extra. Her heroes are Patti Smith, Siouxsie Sioux, Tim Buckley, Lawrence Durrell, Andre Dubus, Jayne Anne Phillips and Jeanette Winterson. She is pleased to have selected this great, powerful yet subtle story by John Leary for December edition of All-Story Extra, and hopes you enjoy it.
