M. Z. Cox (Guest Editor) is a media specialist and a graduate student at Florida State. She's had non-fiction articles published in School Library Journal and School Library Media Activities Monthly and won an honorable mention in the Seven Hills Fiction Contest. This semester she's enrolled in Janet Burroway`s graduate creative fictionworkshop.

Cezarija Abartis was born in Germany of Lithuanian parents, grew up in Pittsburgh, and lives in Minnesota with one husband and four cats. Her stories have appeared in Twilight Zone Magazine, The Quarterly, Manoa, Whetstone, and other magazines unavailable in fine drugstores near you. She teaches in the English Department of St. Cloud State University. The teacher part of her wants you to know she worked really hard on this story: the first draft was begun more than ten years ago. Heather Fowler is a Southern California native, recently relocated toModesto. She received her M.A. in English and Creative Writing from Hollins University in 1997, and has just begun to submit for publication. "Dead Mothers" is her first published piece of short-fiction.

Her recent poetry publications include "The Birthday Poem" in Joe's Journal, Best of the Beach 1998; "Glass" and "Imaginary Mother" in the 1999 March and July editions of San Diego's Art Mag called The Publication; and two sestinas entitled "The Empress" and "The Deluge" from Volume 6 (1999) of the annual Cityworks Literary Anthology. She is currently compiling a book of poems entitled "They Were Cautionary Tales" based on societal interpretations of fairytales from the 15th and 17th centuries.

Although she works whimsically, some might say capriciously, with style, her main genres are literary, feminist and magical realism. She hopes to publish her novel "Thirteen Women" within the next three years and sell the screenplay she is writing concurrently. Her main interests are writing, oil painting and acting. Her literary influences are Tennessee Williams, Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath, Vladamir Nabokov, Jeanette Winterson, Italo Calvino, Tennyson and Shakespeare.
