Pat Rushin's stories have appeared in The North American Review, Quarterly West, Indiana Review, Kalliope, Sudden Fiction, Sundog, and elsewhere, and his short story collection, Puzzling through the News (Galileo Press), is available through Amazon.com. He is currently finishing a feature-length screenplay inspired by the story "Call" (which in turn was inspired by answering one too many phone solicitations). He lives in Orlando and teaches creative writing at the University of Central Florida. He welcomes questions or comments at: rushin@pegasus.cc.ucf.edu or: Muzhikov@aol.com Joyce Baker Porte's first 17 l/2 years as an American child growing up in Tanganyika on the edge of the Serengeti Reserve have formed a basis for many of my stories. Those idyllic years without TV or radio forced me to read at the age of five, and I resolved then to be a writer someday. Later high school experiences in Kenya at an American boarding school confirmed this. I was sent to the U.S. after graduation to attend college. I've lived in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and California, but most of my adult life has been spent in Alaska where I am a Real Estate Broker. I've written for my own pleasure and have had several essays, poems, and non-fiction articles published. One of my creative non-fiction pieces won second place in the 1995 University of Alaska Annual Creative Writing Contest. I've also written a children's book, "Carrie and the Raven", and grade school story, "Couer d'Alene Gold". I'm putting the finishing touches to my first novel (about Africa, of course), have another simmering on the back burner, and several more in the outline stage. I joined Zoetrope in October, 1998 and have posted a dozen short stories. I appreciate the many friends I have made here.
