SIXTEENTH ANNUAL ZOETROPE: ALL-STORY SHORT FICTION CONTEST

Thanks to all who entered the 2012 Short Fiction Contest. We appreciate the opportunity to read your work.

From nearly 2,200 entries, guest judge Karen Russell honored the following stories.

First Prize:
"Case Studies in Ascension" by Cody Klippenstein (Vancouver, BC)

Second Prize:
"Liberation Day" by Sara C. Thomason (Isle of Palms, SC)

Third Prize:
"Ain’t You Scared?" by Gillian Colson French (Bucksport, ME)

Honorable Mentions:
"The Balcony" by David Busis (Iowa City, IA)
"Chinatown" by Serena Crawford (Portland, OR)
"A River of Stars" by Vanessa Hua (Claremont, CA)
"Three and a Half Questions for Ramona" by Jenna Krumminga (New York, NY)
"Diptych" by Joe McDonough (Durham, NC)
"Plastic Surgery" by Sarah Elizabeth Schantz (Boulder, CO)

First prize is $1,000; second prize $500; and third prize $250. The prizewinners and honorable mentions will be considered for representation by William Morris Endeavor, ICM, Regal Literary, the Elaine Markson Literary Agency, Inkwell Management, Sterling Lord Literistic, Aitken Alexander Associates, Barer Literary, the Gernert Company, and the Georges Borchardt Literary Agency.

The winning story, "Case Studies in Ascension" by Cody Klippenstein, was published in the Spring 2013 issue.
